Synopsis

In England, Paul Kegsworthy, whose real father was thrown in jail years before, runs away from his cruel stepfather and, after arriving in London, assumes the name of Paul Savelli. The Princess Sophie Zobraska takes Paul in and educates and encourages him until he feels ready to run for parliament. His older, established opponent, Silas Finn, demands that Paul drop out of the race, and when he refuses, Silas reveals that he is really Paul's father, but had taken a new name and started a new life after his parole. Paul still refuses to withdraw and is voted into office. On election night, however, Paul gets word that Silas is critically ill. He goes to the old man and tells him, just before he dies, that he, Silas, has been elected. Soon after his father's death, Paul and the princess make plans for their marriage.
