Synopsis

Through the influence of his wife Molly, Chick Hewes, one-time gang member, decides to go straight. His former partner Benny, however, enjoys life as a criminal and uses Chick's house as a hideout after being shot during his latest holdup. Benny soon dies from his wounds, but not before leaving a nervous Chick with a stolen necklace. Charlie, Molly's drug addict brother, then steals the necklace, and when he is picked up by the police, he implicates Chick in Benny's heist. The authorities arrest Chick, but when Police Commissioner Garvey learns that Molly is about to have a baby, he lets Chick go free, so the infant will not have to be the child of a convict.
