Synopsis

Weary of their pre-nuptial socializing, Hugh Ridgway and Grace Vernon decide to elope, but circumstances force them to take refuge on an ocean liner before they can take their final vows. On board with them are Lady Tenny and Henry Veath, Lady Tenny's sweetheart and an old friend of Hugh's, but no clergyman. When a typhoon hits the ship, Hugh, who has been obligated by decorum to pose as Grace's brother, boards a rescue boat with Lady Tenny, whom he believes to be Grace. Later, the mismatched couple washes up on a tropical island where the natives declare them gods and make them the center of their tribal ceremonies. Over the next year, Lady Tenny falls in love with Hugh, but to be true to Grace, he refuses to return the affection. Before the natives can forcefully marry them, the couple is rescued by an American ship. Upon returning home, Hugh discovers that Grace has married Henry, and he decides to do the same with Lady Tenny.
