Synopsis

After millionaire mine owner Sir Anthony Gregson tries to buy his brother's shares of the family estate, the brother, a soldier of fortune who has always been called "Blink," goes to America. When Sir Anthony's son Aubrey refuses to marry his father's choice, Sir Anthony cuts off Aubrey's financial assistance. After Sir Anthony refuses his striking workers' demands for better wages and safer conditions, he has a breakdown and is ordered by his physician to take a sea voyage. His yacht anchors on the coast where Blink lives, and during an argument in Blink's hut, Sir Anthony has a stroke and dies. Blink impersonates his brother and, with the "Tearer," a social outcast whom Blink befriended, sails to England. Blink agrees to the workers' demands, improves his tenants' housing conditions and lowers their rent. After he agrees to Aubrey's marriage to his sweetheart, Blink's friend Gouger, who upon discovering Sir Anthony's body, thought that Sir Anthony murdered Blink, arrives. Although Aubrey overhears Blink identify himself, he allows Blink to continue as Sir Anthony. Finally, Blink marries the Tearer, who is now a nurse.
