Synopsis

Hard-working Charles Nelson gives his all to his family, who, in the delirium of recent wealth, spend day and night entertaining and enjoying society life. Alone and unappreciated, Charles turns to Kitty Claire, a vaudevillian, for affection and attention. Charles's son Kenneth discovers the affair and has a confrontation with his father, which Mrs. Nelson overhears. She promptly requests a separation, but their daughter Alice, siding with her father, moves in with Charles, while Kenneth defends his mother. Charles terminates the affair, but Kitty, attracted to Kenneth, entraps him in Charles' place. Unaware of Kitty's connection to his father, Kenneth proposes to her in her apartment, but she declines, saying she loves another man. At that moment Charles appears and Kenneth flees in confusion, determined to end his life. His mother intercedes in time to save him from suicide, and the Nelsons are reconciled, putting their past sins securely in the family cupboard.
