Synopsis

Anna Gray and Perry Carlyle both pass examinations to become U.S. Treasury Department workers, but Perry, who has placed higher on his exam, obtains a position before his sweetheart. Perry goes to Washington, and then, when a position becomes open in his section, Anna is able to get a job as well. Both live in a boardinghouse run by the mother of Ruth Jordan, a co-worker. Perry becomes infatuated with Ruth, and succumbing to pressure to take her to nice places, he steals and pastes together old treasury note fragments to form new bills. When the department learns about the bogus notes, agent Sam Meade is sent to investigate. Meade discovers that Perry is responsible, but Anna's plea for mercy so moves him that he allows the young man to go free if he will go with Anna to South America to begin a new life.
