Synopsis

During the Civil War, two soldiers become close friends. Years later one friend, seriously ill, calls the other to his bedside and asks him to watch over his two sons after his death. The friend agrees. One boy grows up to become a hopeless alcoholic and leaves the village to wander, while the other becomes a minister. When the latter falls in love with the saloon keeper's daughter, however, his congregation is so scandalized that the choir and organist refuse to participate in the service. The alcoholic brother returns to the village and upon realizing his brother's plight, staggers to the organ and plays the hymns. All ends happily as the brothers are reunited.

Notes

Gray's novel was taken from a "famous temperance play" of the same name, which opened in New York on August 25, 1904. A song of that title, written by William B. Glenroy and Henry Lamb, was published in 1893. No information was found concerning director or cast members for this film.
