Synopsis
When the Civil War breaks out, United States Army Captain Bernard Tyler elects to remain loyal to the Union but stays in the South long enough to bid farewell to his fiancée, Virginia Rutledge. Bernard is led to believe that Virginia, who supports the South, has betrayed him to the Confederates, but she later proves her innocence. Overseer Jim Rabun, whose cruelty to her father's slaves led Virginia to request that he be dismissed, defects to the enemy camp. Upon attaining a position of authority, he tries to harm Virginia, but at the war's end, Bernard comes to her rescue.
