Synopsis

While vacationing in the country, city clerk and fledgling poet Philip meets country girl Phoebe, and the two fall in love. Before returning to New York, Philip pledges that as soon as he can sell some poems, they will be married. Back in the city, Philip quits his job and finds a baby on a dumbwaiter and, out of kindheartedness, adopts the infant. Meanwhile, Phoebe, using the egg money that she has earned, buys a ticket to New York and with her brown hen tucked under her arm, goes to join Philip. Once there, Phoebe attracts the interest of Stuyvesant Owen, Philip's former boss, who tries to break up her romance by hinting that the baby is really Philip's child. Things look grim for the couple until Phoebe finds a note that proves that the baby is a foundling, and Philip finds success writing verses for a ham company. After all of their problems have been settled, Philip and Phoebe settle down for a happy life in her New York.
