Synopsis

Working under oppressive conditions because of evil superintendents, Colorado miners go on strike, causing Warren Harcourt, the benevolent mine president, to arrive on the scene. After some violence, residents of the mining camp draw lots to see who will shoot the president. Vera Maroff, the schoolmistress, is the "winner," but she and Warren love each other. Torn between love and duty, Vera decides to kill Warren and then kill herself. She only wounds him, however, and the suicide attempt fails. While recovering, Warren grants the miners' demands and makes plans to run the mine with Vera as his equal partner.
