Synopsis
Phyllis Shaw, feeling the sting of poverty, decides to marry a rich man. First, Phyllis meets Jerry, a young struggling artist who falls in love with her, but she refuses him because of his lack of riches. Then Phyllis meets Kirke, a wealthy married man who offers to lavish wealth upon her but refuses to consent to a marriage. When Jerry loses his sight due to overwork, Phyllis plans to raise money for him by auctioning herself to the highest bidder. The bids run high until Jerry enters the room and offers love and marriage. Phyllis refuses his offer and is on the verge of accepting Kirke's proposal, when he suddenly assaults her and Jerry comes to the rescue. Phyllis, then realizing that love and happiness are better than riches and abuse, consents to marry Jerry.
