Synopsis

Bored with his wife and factory job, John Belmont runs away to another city, changes his name to John Roberts, and finds an executive position. He soon marries once again, buys the factory where he was first employed and then institutes a ruthless efficiency system. As a result, his employees go on strike, and the work stoppage causes John to lose his mind. He wanders away from the factory and falls in with some tramps who call him "Daffy" Smith. He then helps the strikers fight against the strikebreakers, and, still unable to remember anything about his past, shoots Claude Roberts, his son by his second marriage, when Claude tries to seduce the sweetheart of one of the strikers. Finally, admitting defeat, the strikers go back to work, and John, still not having come to his senses, gets a job in his own factory and slowly succumbs to the ruthless working conditions which he himself introduced.
