Synopsis

Philip Holden spends most of his time writing poetry, but when he falls in love with Louise, he realizes that he must start to earn a living in order to marry her. Naively, he gets a job selling shares in a gold mine which his unscrupulous employer believes has long since dried up. Philip's sales record is excellent, but instead of a commission, his boss pays him in mine shares, because he is sure that they are worthless. When the mine starts producing more gold, Philip's shares suddenly are worth a fortune. Wealthy now, he lets his practical brother Miles handle his finances and divides his time equally between composing poetry and courting Louise.
