Synopsis

Chronically unable to meet the right man, Flora Fairbanks falls in love with John Markham, a young artist, while vacationing in France, and believes that her run of bad luck has ended. The Countess Olga Tcherny, however, also loves John, and, as she spies on the couple, plots her revenge on Flora. Later, the three of them are in New York, and Olga invites Flora to attend her new play. Then, while watching the performance, Flora is horrified to see that the play is based on her romance with John, but that details have been added, stressed, or left out to make the relationship seem both scandalous and degrading. Olga herself spreads the news that Flora served as the inspiration for the play. The plan backfires, however, when, instead of ostracizing Flora, New York high society shuns Olga for tampering with Flora's reputation. Then, finally rid of Olga's interference, Flora and John make plans for their marriage.
