Synopsis
Frightened by the city's new hardline stance against criminals, Whitey and his gang kill the mayor and try to make it look as if Bruce Kerrigan, a policeman who has been particularly diligent in rounding up crooks, committed the murder. Bruce manages to escape from the authorities, however, and then his sweetheart Ethel Drew, the mayor's daughter, decides to clear him by capitalizing on the crooks' superstitions. Disguising herself as a fortuneteller and then summoning Whitey and his gang, she predicts nothing but bad luck if they refuse to admit to the mayor's murder. Unnerved, the criminals confess to the police, after which Ethel and Kerrigan get married.
