Synopsis
After the death of her foster father, who had rescued her from a shipwreck years before, Nan moves to the city and unwittingly becomes a member of a gang of crooks. Then, following a bungled attempt at robbing Thomas Carter's home, Nan reveals all of the gang's secrets, thereby sending the leader, Bad Riley, to jail. Nan herself is taken into the Carter home, replacing the daughter who, along with Thomas' wife, drowned years before. Thomas' adopted son, the Reverend Robert Carter, begins a romance with Nan to the displeasure of his kindly but status-conscious father. Bad then escapes and, for revenge, he shoots Nan. She is only injured, however, and when a doctor dresses her wounds, Thomas notices a scar on her arm and immediately recognizes her as the daughter who he believed was dead. Thomas welcomes her back into the family, after which he enthusiastically supports a marriage between Nan and Robert.
