Synopsis

The life of Joseph Wilton, a widowed piano maker, centers around his son, Robert, who goes away to college and, supported by Joseph's money, takes up drinking and gambling. Robert is expelled, and while Joseph now must admit to his son's profligacy, he nonetheless sets him up in business. The expenditure ruins Joseph's own business, and Robert, unable to succeed, goes West, vowing to return only after he has made good. While Joseph struggles as a piano tuner, Robert becomes wealthy. Older and wiser, he returns to his father, as well as to the sweetheart he had left behind. Also welcomed back to the family is Molly, Robert's sister, whom Joseph had banished for her criticism of the father's financial support of the son's bad habits.
