Synopsis
To save himself from financial ruin, Peter Laird induces his daughter Margaret to break her engagement to Clive and marry Deering, a prosperous casino owner. Years later, after he is elected district attorney, Clive vows to break up the local gambling circuit and plans a raid on the Deering operation. Because of an information leak, the raid fails, but Deering witnesses the romantic reunion of his wife and Clive and punishes Margaret later with his brutal jealousy. After the source of the leak is discovered, a second raid is planned, and Clive sends Margaret a note urging her to leave. Once caught, Deering accuses Margaret of plotting against him and attempts to murder her but is arrested before he can finish the deed. Escaped from jail, Deering returns home and murders his double-crossing partner and then tries to kill Margaret, but Clive arrives in time to save her. While escaping, Deering leaps from a balcony and dies.
