Synopsis

Colonel Henry Richmond, a wealthy Palm Beach resident, sends his daughter Pearl to live with an old friend in Jamaica, desiring that she grow up away from the influences of Florida society. In Jamaica, Pearl leads a contented life, loved by Philip Hudson and adored by Brutus, a castaway half-wit. At the urging of the famed British explorer Murray Carson, the colonel travels to Jamaica to visit Pearl. Carson forcefully seduces Pearl, deceives her into boarding his yacht and abducts her. Believing that Pearl has left of her own accord, Richmond suffers a debilitating stroke. After a blow to his head, Brutus regains his memory and recalls that Carson, once his exploring partner, left him to die in South America. He warns the colonel of Carson's villainous nature, then rescues Pearl and captures Carson, who dies at the hands of a vengeful Richmond. Finally, Pearl and Philip, her devoted friend, marry.
