Synopsis

Mary Blake, after leaving her baby on the general store doorstep, drowns herself because of the brutality of her husband Samuel, who is addicted to cocaine. Blake is driven out of town, and the baby, named June Friday for the month and day on which she is found, is reared by storekeeper Harriet Huntley. Eighteen years later, June meets vacationing New Yorker Paul Duncan, and after hearing his stories about the big city, she leaves her unkind foster mother. Duncan gets her a job as a manicurist, and after she refuses his advances, he proposes. June accepts, but the wedding, performed by Blake, now Duncan's valet, is fake. After Duncan's uncle learns about the ruse and orders him to give up June and go to South America, Blake learns June's real identity and confesses. June later marries lawyer Tom Van Est, without knowing that he is Duncan's friend. After they enjoy three happy years, Duncan returns. June kills him when he tries to rape her, but Blake confesses to the murder and kills himself.
