Synopsis

As he departs for battle in Quebec, General James Wolfe, commander of the English forces, bids farewell to his mother and his sweetheart, Katherine Lowther. Meanwhile, Mignon Mars, a French Canadian, and her brother Hubert are taken prisoner by the Royal Americans. When Lieutenant Arleigh, a dashing officer, comes to Mignon's aid, they fall in love. Later, during a fierce battle, both Hubert and Arleigh are injured. When Mignon goes to visit them one day, she is informed that Arleigh has died, when actually he has exchanged coats with a dead French soldier. At the Château Mars, Mignon's home on the Île d'Orléans, Arleigh comes with intelligence information about the forthcoming French offensive and is joyfully reunited with Mignon. At the same time, Wolfe is engaged in battle with General Montcalm, leader of the French forces. Wolfe dies in battle, assured of an English victory, while Montcalm expires, spared the humiliation of surrender. As the sun sets, Mignon and Arleigh, now married, watch as a departing vessel bears Wolfe's body to England.
