Synopsis

Betty is staying at an inn near Valley Forge where General Washington is camped during the Revolutionary War. She is in love with a man who, unknown to her, is a British spy. When she overhears Hessian plans to attack the Continental army, she gives the information to The Spy, thinking that he will warn Washington. Meanwhile, however, Betty's brother overhears The Spy's betrayal to the Hessians and tells her about their plot to kill Washington at the inn that night. Betty convinces the general to change rooms with her and when The Spy comes to kill him, he wounds Betty instead. The next morning Washington emerges from the inn unhurt. Betty also appears, mortally wounded, and renounces The Spy, who is then arrested.
