Synopsis
Jules, the son of French General Bleriat, agrees to give a masked blackmailer his father's secret military papers when threatened with exposure of his gambling debts. Masked, Jules steals the papers, but during a struggle with his father, Jules receives a knife wound in his arm. After receiving gold for the papers, Jules finds his sweetheart Marie with his rival Jeffry Le Bland. Feigning suicide, Jules stabs Jeffry in the arm when Jeffry tries to help. When Jeffry is imprisoned for stealing the papers because of the knife wound, Jules denies that he inflicted the wound, but after pleadings from Marie, Jules breaks down and confesses to his mother. Jeffry is freed and Jules imprisoned, but his mother succeeds in convincing her husband to put blanks in the firing squad's guns. After Jules feigns death and escapes to another country, the General is plagued by the belief that he has betrayed his country.
