Synopsis

Composer Victor Gilmore loves Dorothy Eldridge, the secretary of his father Cyrus, but she marries his brother Robert, a lawyer, despite a doctor's warning that Robert can never father children. As the marriage wears on, Robert neglects Dorothy, who longs for children, and he continues secretly to support his past lover, Flo Merrivale. When Cyrus dies and leaves his fortune to Robert because of doubts that Victor was his child, Robert's repetition to Victor of these doubts causes a fight after which Robert orders Victor out. Some years later, Victor is found starving and is taken to a hospital where he contacts Dorothy. She effects a reconciliation between the brothers, but during their reminiscences, Robert is shot. After Victor is convicted of the murder, Dorothy marries him the night before the planned execution to show her faith in him. As Victor is led to the chair, he is pardoned because of the confession of guilt-ridden Flo. Dorothy and Victor soon have a son.
