While out looking for cattle, Shorty is taken prisoner by Mexican soldiers. Meanwhile, a letter arrives for him saying that an Eastern girl will soon be coming who will inherit a fortune if she marries Shorty within two weeks. Two ranch hands greet her and one arranges to be Shorty's proxy, however, the girl and the ranch hand fall in love and then substitute his name for Shorty's on the marriage license. Shorty sends word through a Spanish girl that he is being held prisoner, and the ranchers attempt to rescue him. In the end, Shorty escapes marriage and returns to the Spanish girl who helped him.
