Synopsis

During the Sudanese uprising of 1884, Nolan, a private in the English army, saves his Arab sweetheart Zuleika from rape by a French captain named Fornet. During the altercation, Fornet is injured and, because the captain appears to be dead, Nolan and Zuleika flee to an Arab encampment. Sergeant Nolan, the private's father, finds evidence incriminating his son and reports his findings to his superior. Although he is heartbroken, Sergeant Nolan pursues the fugitive with a small contingent, and is the only survivor of an Arab massacre. During the attack, Private Nolan sends his sweetheart to summon help while he defends the English flag from dishonor. When help arrives, the sergeant arrests his son, only to learn later that Fornet's wounds were superficial and he is certain to recover. Finally, the private is cited for his heroism and the Nolans and Zuleika return to the English camp.
