Synopsis

When the safe of wealthy New York businessman Pell is found open, with one million dollars missing, Pell's male secretary is accused of the crime after one of his cufflinks is discovered near the safe. Meanwhile, a banker who is in love with Pell's daughter Daphne conspires with Roger, Pell's butler, to convict the secretary, whom Daphne loves, of the crime. Roger lies in court about the secretary, but later, one of the maids suspicious of Roger's newly found wealth, calls the police. They believe Roger to be the thief, then pursue him, but cannot prosecute because of the protection of the banker who fears his own exposure. Eventually, it is discovered through hypnosis that Pell, a sleepwalker, had hidden the money in a fireplace for protection. Pell then is able to retrieve the money, after which he apologizes to the secretary and promises him Daphne's hand in marriage. The police pursue Roger to charge him with perjury, but the butler falls to his death from a skyscraper.
