Synopsis

Clergyman Jack Livingston saves Dorothea Gordon from drowning in a whirlpool, after which the two fall in love. Walter, Dorothea's autocratic brother and Jack's enemy, is opposed to their relationship, and when gossips tell him that Jack has been seen leaving Dorothea's bedroom, he attacks the clergyman. Jack accidentally kills Walter in their struggle and seeks refuge on a deserted island after burying Walter's body at sea. When the body is discovered, Jack becomes a fugitive, but he returns when he learns that Dorothea is dying. After her death, Jack carries her body into the sea and drowns.
