Synopsis

Prof. Wallace, an inventor, threatens to disinherit his son Richard unless the young man ends his romance with chorus girl Violet Dane. When the professor is found dead in his observatory one morning, Richard is arrested for murder, but detective Kate Kirby suspects Violet and decides to investigate. Joining the cast of Violet's show, Kate becomes intimate with the dancer and one day overhears her praying for Richard's release. Finally convinced of Violet's innocence, Kate is shocked when she turns herself in with a confession of guilt. Kate then enlists the aid of her paralytic father, an ex-detective, and in reading the professor's notebooks, they learn that he was killed by his own invention, an explosive known as the "infra red ray."
