Synopsis

Losing his fiancée, Nanette, to Capt. Duval Van Jean of the French Army, Jacques, an engineer in a large gun factory, cannot contain his jealousy. In the same factory the officer is overseeing the construction of a cannon of his own invention, and on the day of its casting Jacques secretly causes him to fall into the molten bronze. War breaks out on the next day, Jacques enters the service of his country, and he survives many bloody battles. Finally, alone and badly wounded during a German assault, a vision leads Jacques to a cannon--Duval's cannon--and he turns the tide of the battle just as he collapses. The spirit of Duval places the French flag over Jacques' body.
