The film was copyrighted under the title The Chariot Race. Lew Wallace's novel was also the basis for two feature-length films entitled Ben-Hur, both produced by M-G-M. A 1925 adaptation was directed by Fred Niblo and starred Ramon Novarro and Francis X. Bushman; the 1959 version was directed by William Wyler and starred Charlton Heston and Stephen Boyd (see AFI Catalog of Feature Films, 1921-30 and 1951-60).
