Synopsis

Joe Foley, charged to deliver a trainload of cattle to his employer, is forced to commandeer the engine when his engineer refuses to continue until he has observed union rest rules. Later, the superintendent offers Joe a job, which he refuses until he sees the superintendent's daughter, Nora. McPherson, the engineer, whose overtures to the girl have been repulsed, becomes jealous, fights Foley, and is beaten. Joe's mother leaves for the West when he writes that he is marrying Nora, and Joe is given the privilege of driving the express on which she is to arrive; but McPherson knocks him unconscious, and his brother, Blackie, puts sleeping powder in Joe's coffee. Nora meets Joe's mother, and they board the express, driven by McPherson. Blackie (thinking Joe is at the engine) dynamites a dam, bringing down the bridge, while McPherson is overcome by the coffee. Joe, hearing of the train's impending doom from a track inspector, rides to the locomotive, stopping it just before the bridge.
