Synopsis
In 1859, Pony Express rider Robert "Pony Bob" Haslam is attacked on the trail and captured by Paiute Indians, who take him to their camp. There Bob is questioned by Aleck Harvey, a greedy white man in cahoots with Chief Black Eagle. When Bob refuses to give Harvey information on an incoming gold shipment and he is tied up. Within the tribe is a young white woman, called Bright Feather, who was reared by the Paiutes after her family was killed in an Indian raid. After Bright Feather overhears Black Eagle and Harvey plotting, she frees Bob. Black Eagle's wife Moonlight observes this, but does nothing because she is jealous of her husband's interest in Bright Feather. When Harvey, who wants Bright Feather for himself, discovers Bob missing, Moonlight tells him what has happened. Not wanting to be Harvey's squaw, Bright Feather goes to a high cliff and is about to jump off when Bob, who has ridden back toward the Indian camp, stops her. As Bright Feather and Bob are embracing, Harvey sneaks up from behind and draws a gun on them. Bright Feather, however, gets Bob's gun and aims at Harvey. The two men then fight, and after Bob bests Harvey, he takes Bright Feather and rides away. A young brave who has seen what happened, then reports to Black Eagle and the tribe rides after them. During the chase, Bob is knocked off his horse. As Bright Feather tries to awaken the unconscious Bob, the tribe finds her and takes her back to camp. When Black Eagle is about to kill Bright Feather, Moonlight becomes remorseful of what she has done, draws her bow and arrow, then shoots and kills him. Harvey then orders Moonlight to be tied up in preparation for burning her at the stake. Meanwhile, an unconscious Bob is found by members of a wagon train. When he comes to, he tells them about Bright Feather and the settlers, both men and women, ride toward the camp. At the camp, Harvey attacks Bright Feather in his tent, but she is saved by Bob, who arrives with the settlers. After the settlers defeat the Indians, they save Moonlight and decide to hang Harvey, but he kills himself with his own gun first. Moonlight then goes to Bright Feather to apologize, and she is forgiven. A few years later, Bright Feather and Bob are living happily in a cabin, with their young son and Moonlight.
