Synopsis

In France, impoverished Baron Jean d'Aubray gets a job as an insurance agent for an American company through the influence of his childhood sweetheart, Hélène, whose godfather owns the business. Imbued with American sales methods, the baron leaves for the Côte d'Azur in Nice to acquire clients at a fashionable resort hotel. When business is slow, the baron has the jewels of the Countess Martininska stolen. Subsequently, he is laden with requests from the hotel guests for insurance against anything from blackmail to "flightiness of wives," and he secures contracts worth two million francs. In the meantime, he flirts with an American millionaire named Betty Rolston, whose family has been ruined because of the recent economic crisis. The baron even insures the hotel against the failure of a dance act and the appearance of a sultan at a hotel party. When the sultan is late, the baron and his friends improvise the dance, and he impersonates the sultan in order to avoid paying the insurance claim; however, when the sultan arrives at the last minute, the baron is taunted for being a fake. Jean is about to be fired for his antics and his amorous ways, when Hélène rescues and marries him, leaving Betty to marry the sultan.
