Synopsis

In the late 1800's, cattle barons try to drive out small landowners in order to have the entire range for their cattle. After a raid on the Barton ranch, rancher Mark Perdue warns his fellow ranchers not to depend too much on the sheriff to find the perpetrators of the raids. Actually, Perdue is behind the raids. In secret, he meets a gang headed by Sam Eldridge, to wait for the Ridin' Kid, an outlaw who is supposed to be the fastest man with a gun in the Southwest. Eldridge, who is also the president of the cattle breeders' association, orders The Kid and his sidekick, Pedro, to get rid of Barton. When The Kid visits the Bartons' ranch, he meets Miss Barton and flirts with her, but she sends him away. Then, when various raids do not succeed, Eldridge suspects that The Kid has been warning the settlers. He fights with The Kid, and when The Kid is wounded, Miss Barton nurses him. Perdue orders his men to kill The Kid when he arrives to pick up his paycheck, but instead The Kid escapes with Perdue's pay ledger, which indicates that he has been paying the raiders. The Kid reveals that he is actually United States Marshal John Denton, who arrested the real Kid and has been pretending to be the outlaw in order to capture Perdue. The marshal then ensures that Barton hands Jeff the reward money so that he and Miss Barton can be married.
