Synopsis

A dude ranch is being plagued by robberies because one of the ranch hands, Butch, is sending secret signals to a gang of outlaws, alerting them to the disposition of the ranch's rich guests. When well-to-do Easterners Roger Whitney, his wife and daughter Patricia check into the ranch, the owner orders his hands to be especially vigilant. Whitney has brought his spoiled, stubborn daughter to the West to introduce her to his partner's son, Bill Cartwright, Jr., whom he hopes she will marry. "Buck," the ranch foreman, who has sworn off women following a painful rejection by a local coquette, is attracted to Patricia, and she, to him, but neither one will admit their feelings. Buck convinces the old ranch cook that Patricia actually likes him and, after lending his clothes to him, tells him to sneak into her room for a surprise nighttime rendezvous. As she sees the cook approach the house, Patricia, who has made a bet with her father that she can break Buck's heart, mistakes him for Buck and slips away to the bunkhouse. A few minutes later, the Whitneys are awakened by Patricia's screams and discover her in the bunkhouse with a half-dressed Buck. Whitney and his wife insist that Patricia and Buck marry immediately and order the ranch owner to send for a minister. Red Conroy, the secret leader of the outlaws, hears the sheriff calling for the local circuit rider and decides to impersonate the minister so that he can rob the Whitneys with ease. After Red performs the wedding ceremony at the ranch, a humiliated Patricia grabs a wild horse and storms away. While a concerned Buck rides after her, Red sneaks into the Whitneys' bedroom and steals Mrs. Whitney's valuable jewelry. On the road, Red meets up with Patricia and, after his true identity is revealed, tries to kidnap her. Patricia escapes and alerts Buck, who eventually thwarts Red and his gang and returns the jewels to Mrs. Whitney. Confident that Buck and Patricia are truly in love, Whitney reveals to Patricia and his wife that Buck's full name is Bill Cartwright, Jr. A real wedding is then planned.
