Synopsis
Jack Merrill, a young American in Paris, tells the girl he loves, Dolores, about a dream he had about her the night before: When a canoe in which she and his rival, the Count de Moyon, were sitting, capsized, Jack jumped in the water and swam to her rescue. He woke up, though, soaking wet and realized he had tipped over the fish bowl in his sleep. When Dolores' mother, of noble birth, arrives with the count and others, Dolores says that Jack has invited them to join him that night at the Black Cat in Montmartre. The count makes his apologies to Dolores and says he will be unable to join them, then plots against Jack with his friend Fifi and Julot, a bartender, and promises to give them money for helping him. After Dolores' mother scolds Jack for wanting to take Dolores to a club like the Black Cat, Jack and Dolores meet in the garden, and Jack urges her to forget the count and return to America to be with him. Dolores, however, suggests that they wait. Later, Dolores telephones Jack and blames him for the count's disappearance. Soon after, Dolores and the count are reunited and kissing, when Jack arrives and Dolores' parrot Polly makes an embarrassing sound. The count, thinking Jack has insulted him, challenges him to a duel. The count then informs a business associate, Perille, that he cannot fly with him for a planned publicity visit to New York, but he agrees to send an impostor in his place. Dolores, her mother and Jack eat dinner in the ship's dining room on their way to New York. Jack insists that a particular waiter serve them, as he realizes this is the count in disguise. Dolores, horrified when she sees the count dressed as a waiter, marries Jack.

Notes
Film Daily lists the film's English title as Paris Fascinates. The plot summary was based on an incomplete translation of a dialogue continuity deposited with the NYSA. The film appears to be an Italian-language version of the 1928 film The Masked Lover, produced by Golden Stars Film Productions. Three of the actors credited for the Italian film, Jack Halliday, Muriel Kingston and Lee Timmons, are listed in the credits for The Masked Lover. (See AFI Catalog of Feature Films, 1921-30; F2.3513).
