Synopsis
Because of his spending excesses, Peter Lobert, the son of a wealthy Englishman, is disinherited and dismissed from his home by his father. With his faithful servant Bagley, Peter ventures to America to court the newly rich Nellie McCabe. Posing as a prince, Peter succeeds in winning Nellie's hand, but troubles begin when Nellie's father Patrick announces that Peter must support his new wife without aid from him. After confessing to the pregnant Nellie the truth about his poverty, Peter takes a job in McCabe's factory. Labor unrest leads to a violent strike, and McCabe is ambushed by his workers. With much daring, Peter holds off the seething mob and rescues his father-in-law and the factory from fiery destruction. Hearing of his impending grandfatherhood, McCabe happily embraces the young couple.

Variety described the character of the nouveau-riche Irish American Patrick McCabe as "a broadly exaggerated Celtic character, a type entirely inconsistent with the accompanying situations.... [McCabe] is cast as a prosperous manufacturer who has retained for his castle the proverbial clay pipe and woolen socks of his younger days when hod carrying was classified as an art rather than a trade. McCabe and his wife have also lifted to the height of aristocracy the mannerisms and 'bogue' of former times, the conversational sub-titles gathering occasional laughs, but coming as they do from an exaggerated character, they can hardly be construed as legitimate."
