Notes
According to contemporary news items, this film was shot years before its release, but could not be shown theatrically until Cody's death on January 10, 1917. Modern sources state that Cody was involved in a number of legal battles regarding his film productions and footage for this film May have been part of some litigation. An advertisement for the film claimed that The Buffalo Bill Show was the only "authorized" Cody picture and was "taken under the personal supervision of Buffalo Bill." (After Cody's death, Essanay released its own documentary called The Adventures of Buffalo Bill, which, like this film, was shot years before its release, ). According to this January 1917 advertisement, The Buffalo Bill Show played simultaneously at the Rialto and Strand theaters in New York City. However, no reviews, or other production information is available. Contemporary sources do not indicate whether the entire production was a recreation of past events or if some of the footage was "live action." John J. O'Brien (also listed as John D. O'Brien) May be the same as John B. O'Brien, once an Essanay actor and scenarist, who May have been involved in the 1913 Essanay Buffalo Bill production.
