Synopsis

Viscount Xavier du Venoux has decided to kill himself as he can no longer live without the love of a woman. León Mirol, a happy, carefree friend, who has never worked and has no profession, has the opportunity to inherit a large sum from his uncle if he agrees to marry a widow within a year after the millionaire's death. Seeing that Leon is in serious difficulty and that he faces a bleak future without the inheritance, Gaby, his girl friend, looks for a suitable candidate, but, being very jealous and fearing that she may lose her boyfriend, she cannot find anyone trustworthy. When all is almost lost, León finds out about Xavier's intention and immediately suggests that he marry Gaby, as she will then instantly become a widow. Xavier sees no reason not to help his friend, until after the ceremony, he feels that fortune has smiled upon him and, thenceforth, forgets all about killing himself.
