Synopsis
Steve Funney of the border patrol is sent to investigate a band of outlaws who are smuggling Chinese across the Mexican border. While riding in the border area, Steve comes to the aid of a spunky young woman after her car runs off the road. Unaware of his identity, the woman teases Steve, and while he helps her with her car, he dryly dubs her "Miss Funny." Later, Steve rides to the ranch of John Vale and, after showing him a letter from his boss, asks to be hired as a hand so that he can investigate the smugglers in secret. Vale agrees to the plan and, without mentioning Steve's last name, introduces him to his daughter Gypsy, who turns out to be "Miss Funny." As soon as Vale informs his foreman, Bill Dirky, of Steve's hiring, Dirky, who is the head of the smuggling gang, becomes suspicious. When Steve attempts to follow other members of the gang, who are on their way to the border with a group of Chinese, they shoot at him and presume him dead. Vale, meanwhile, discovers Dirky's part in the gang and confronts him. Dirky knocks Vale over the head and leaves him for dead, then rides off to rejoin his gang. At the same time, Gypsy falls into a hole while riding and is found by Steve. Steve attempts to rescue Gypsy, but ends up falling into the hole himself. While Steve and Gypsy exchange loving quips in the hole, Dirky orders his men to rush to the border with the Chinese, while he disposes of Vale's body by burning down his ranch house. On his way back to the ranch, however, Dirky stops and rescues Gypsy, whom he desires, but leaves Steve in the hole. Dirky and Gypsy are met by one of Vale's loyal hands, who has been sent by a revived Vale to warn Steve of Dirky's duplicity. Although beaten up by Dirky, the hand manages to rescue Steve, who then rounds up the gang and saves Gypsy and her father. Having proven himself a true hero, Steve reveals his identity to Gypsy and proposes that she change her name from "Miss Funny" to "Mrs. Funney."
