Synopsis
At the end of World War I, soldier Carlos Douglas returns to America and kills an old friend who had betrayed a confidence, then turns himself in to the police using the name Jaime Daik. Eventually, he is sentenced to die. Carlos' aged mother, having no idea of his whereabouts, thinks she recognizes him from a published photograph of Daik and, anxious to know the truth, begs her daughter María to visit the prison. Carlos manages to convince María that he is not the man she is looking for, but is instead a friend of her brother whom he saw killed, fighting courageously, during the war.

Notes
This was a Spanish-language version of the 1929 Fox film The Valiant, which was directed by William K. Howard and starred Paul Muni and Marguerite Churchill. The Spanish version was originally intended to be a three-reel short, and shooting on that was concluded in August 1930. However, the studio then expanded the short to feature length with additional scenes that were shot between 27 August and September 4, 1929. In 1940, Twentieth Century-Fox released a remake of The Valiant, entitled The Man Who Wouldn't Talk, directed by David Burton and starring Lloyd Nolan and Jean Rogers. El valiente played in Mexico City in April 1931 under the title El patíbulo.
