Synopsis
Robert, a writer-photographer in his early 40's, meets Karen, a naive young woman, in Los Angeles. She agrees to model for Robert, and they travel to Dar es Salaam to begin a tour of Africa. In the wilderness, the couple gradually get to know each other. Because of an incident that occured when she was 17, Karen is terrified of sex, and she is very suspicious of Robert. When the couple reach Murchison Falls, he asks Karen to pose in the nude. Robert's request triggers an emotional outburst in Karen because of her memories, but Robert is able to calm her, and the two grow closer. As they drive their amphibious car down the Nile, Robert tells Karen about a tragic love affair he had in Hong Kong which has haunted him ever since. While remembering the affair, he is interrupted by screams from Karen who sees dangerous rapids ahead. Robert manages to save their lives, but the vehicle is damaged, and they face a struggle for survival. After Robert constructs sails, they reach land and continue toward safety as their relationship develops into love.
