Synopsis
Terry, a teenaged girl who has recently moved to the Brooklyn tenements, meets Nino, a member of a gang known as the Rebels. At the Rebel clubhouse, Johnny, the head of the Rebels, makes advances, causing his girl friend Angel to become jealous. Terry and Angel fight; Terry wins and becomes a member. A few days later, Terry tells Nino that she will be his lover if he becomes the head of the Rebels. Nino stabs Johnny, making it appear that a rival gang was responsible, and assumes the gang's leadership. Terry, the real power, arranges a rumble between the Rebels and the Warriors. The Rebels win, leaving four dead Warriors. Terry has one of the Rebels killed when he announces that he wants to quit the gang. One day, Terry is called to the Rebel clubhouse and confronted by the other girl members, who fall upon her with knives, clubs, and chains. They slash her face so that hideous scars will remain, take her to the East River and, before dumping her, carve onto her chest Johnny's initials.
