Operation Lovebirds

1h 40m 1968

Brief Synopsis

Freddy Hansen (Morten Grunwald), a game salesman, has his baggaage mistakenly picked up by Smith (Ove Sprogoe), a secret agent. Smith threatens liquidation if Freddy doesn't lend himself as bait to help Smith trap Dr. Pax (Martin Hansen), a notorious enemy agent. He accompanies Smith to Stockholm where they are to meet Sonja (Essy Perrson), a double agent for Dr. Pax, who is also on Smith's liquidation list. Thanks to his bag of game tricks, Freddy manages to avoid being done in by Kolick (Poul Bungaard), a killer for Dr. Pax. Freddy falls for Sonja, and he, she and Smith are taken as prisoners to Dr. Pax's hideout, a remote island fortress from which a major power is to be attacked by missiles guided by trained pigeons. Freddy manages to teach Dr. Pax a lasting lesson in the difference between trained pigeons and homing pigeons.

Synopsis

As novelties salesman Freddy returns from a business trip, his sample case becomes confused with the valise of secret agent Smith. While Freddy's bag is full of trick gadgets, Smith's briefcase contains incriminating evidence against the sinister Dr. Pax. Because Freddy has unwittingly become privy to its intelligence he is recruited by the secret service, which he enters under the tutelage of Smith. En route to an encounter with Pax's paramour, Sonja, the pair is unsuccessfully attacked by one-handed henchman Kolick. At the Stockholm cabaret in which Sonja is a performer the agents are again menaced by Kolick. Although Freddy escapes with the help of his sample case, Kolick abducts Sonja and Smith. The salesman follows them to Pax's island headquarters, from which the megalomaniac plans to mount a missile attack spearheaded by a flight of trained pigeons. The scheme is foiled by Freddy, who deflects the missiles from their Russian target by substituting homing pigeons for Pax's flock. Freddy rescues Sonja and Smith, and the trio departs in a helicopter as the avian army approaches its target.
