Synopsis
In 1910 in South Africa's Kimberley diamond region, Americans Jim Madison and Gerry Bates earn their living by selling patent medicine and hustling the miners at poker. One of their card games nets them a partnership in Bert Patterson's diamond claim. When Jim and Gerry meet Patterson's lovely daughter, Julie, they decide to work the claim and help Patterson meet his debts. The mine continues to be unproductive, and to make matters worse saloonkeeper Ben Vorster, who owns the water rights in the region, raises his rates. Jim and Gerry earn money by putting on a musical show but lose much of it by impulsively betting on a boxing match. Their scheme to plant diamonds on the claim proves unnecessary as the mine begins to produce. Declining a partnership with Patterson, they move on, leaving Julie to her suitor.
