The Sweet Smell of Sex

1h 10m 1965

Brief Synopsis

Bebe Katsafannis arrives in New York City to celebrate Flag Day and visit her stripper friend from Indiana, Smokey La Bare, who rooms with a man who has a compulsion for picking pockets. In the hope of earning extra money, Bebe visits the apartment of the "Fat Man" and discovers that he collects stray cats, chickens, and pigeons. The "Bald Man" follows Bebe in his limousine and pays her $1,000 for posing nude while he satisfies his voyeuristic urges. Bebe next accepts a modeling job for a "photographer" without a camera who fantasizes about sex as his models parade by. Bebe rejects the advances of Joe, who has been following her, because he appears too upright and ordinary; and, preferring outlandish excitement, she goes to a masquerade party frequented by guests of every sexual preference. She leaves when the dancing degenerates into a sadistic exercise, and, raped by a cab driver, she decides to leave the city. As she is about to board a bus, Joe stops her, and although Bebe finds him a bore, she goes with him to his apartment. While they embrace, the ordinary Joe reveals his underlying perversion and strangles Bebe.
