Synopsis

Norm cannot convince his brother Jim to sell his ranch, which is located on oil-rich land in Texas. Della, failing to win Jim's affection and his property, marries Norm in revenge, then accuses Jim of trying to rape her. Persuaded by Della that Jim is insane, Norm has his brother placed in a mental institution, but Jim escapes. Norm dies mysteriously in Jim's barn, and Crow, an agitator, arouses the townspeople against Jim. The mob becomes inflamed when Della is found drowned in a well at Jim's farm. Although the sheriff determines both deaths to be accidental, he arrives too late to prevent the crazed mob from burning Jim to death.
