Synopsis

Julian Prentice, who occupies a lavish villa on the French Riviera with his wife, Irene, is killed when he surprises Irene with her young lover, Mark. The lovers bury the body on a hill overlooking the beach and plan to report Julian as missing, but Cloe, a cousin of Irene's whom she has not seen for many years, unexpectedly arrives to spend the summer. Cloe mistakes Mark for Julian, whom she has never met, and the deception is continued. Mark finds himself attracted to Cloe, and Irene, jealous, allows herself to be seduced by a passing fisherman. One day Cloe meets Bernard, a childhood friend, and learns that Mark is an impostor. She confronts the lovers with her discovery, and they explain that Julian's death was accidental. As Cloe rushes from the house, Irene drives after her but crashes her car into a tree, killing herself, rather than run down her cousin. Bernard arrives with the police in time to prevent Mark from killing Cloe. Remaining with Bernard, Cloe attempts to forget her terrifying experience. [Also contains striptease sequences.]
