Synopsis

In London in 1710 the ambitious Duchess of Marlborough prevents a secret pact ending the War of Spanish Succession from reaching Queen Anne. Manipulating female jealousies, the Viscount Bolingbroke, a journalist, brings about the conflict's end. By sending the cadet Arthur Marsham to the queen's boudoir, Bolingbroke maneuvers her signature on the treaty. Discovered by the irate duchess in the queen's chambers, the cadet is ordered to marry Abigail, her majesty's attendant and his true love.
